Long Lasting Beauty
The long lasting beauty of an MFMA
Northern Hard Maple floor can be coupled with easy,
low cost maintenance. MFMA Northern Hard Maple is produced
from trees grown
north of the 38th parallel where shorter growing
seasons produce maple with closer, more uniform grain.
The result is a very hard, dense, fine-fibered wood that
is non-splintering, longwearing and resilient. The
closeness of grain and smoothness of surface afford
no lodging place for germ-laden dirt to hide. It
is a particularly clean and sanitary flooring that
will maintain its beauty for years.
Northern hard maple was first used
in sports flooring nearly 150
years ago and has been called nature’s perfect flooring surface.
From the beginning, it was evident that even “nature’s
perfect flooring” needed a little help if consistently outstanding
floors were to be built. Consistent quality became
the mission of a handful of producers who, in 1897,
formed the Maple Flooring Manufacturers
Association -- the MFMA. Their purpose was to research
and develop the best procedures for the selection and
grading of the wood. Over
time, a set of strict, self-imposed manufacturing standards
evolved for members that they adopted in pursuit of
consistent quality. Each
MFMA member mill is subject to periodic, unannounced
third party inspections to assure strict adherence
to MFMA rules governing continuity of specie,
millage and grading of maple flooring.
MFMA Northern
Hard Maple flooring has a natural beauty when given
a transparent finish and is suited for a variety of
uses. Below are common issues in regards to aesthetics
