Keynote Address: Rick Barry
3:30 – 5:00 p.m.

Rick Barry is one of the most celebrated players in NBA history — not only for his game, but also for the
competitiveness he brought to the court. During his 14-year professional career, four in the ABA (Oakland,
Washington and the New York Nets) and ten in the NBA (San Francisco, Golden State and Houston), Barry
was a 12-time All-Star. In 1987, Rick was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and in 1988 the Golden State Warriors retired his #24 jersey. Barry was also named as one of the 50 Greatest NBA Players.

PUR Standards
MFMA Technical Committee
8:00 – 9:30 a.m.

Since 1897, the members of the MFMA have been dedicated to producing the highest quality northern hard maple flooring and sports flooring systems in the world. Within the last 20 years, there has been a movement within the industry to quantify performance characteristics that best define "a good sports floor." MFMA’s PUR Standards focus on shock absorption, vertical deflection, area of deflection, basketball rebound and surface friction. As an organization representing the worldwide sports flooring industry, our goal is to balance technical standards with practical flooring system design in order to create uniform standards of performance in competition sports floors. The MFMA Technical Committee will present the MFMA PUR Standards, explain how the standards were determined and field questions from attendees.

Saturday, March 13

LEED
Jason Grant
Jason Grant Consulting
9:45 a.m. – Noon

What is LEED and the green building movement? We all hear and talk about “Green” and LEED, but who really knows what it is, who governs it, how it works, who it benefits and how best to target your sales and marketing efforts?

MFMA has dedicated a two hour session to the education and discussion of LEED, FSC and legislation related to the green building movement. The goal of this session is to provide an overview of the nuances of LEED and other green rating systems to our members in the sports flooring market and to help them navigate the “Green” movement.

For more than 15 years, Jason Grant has been a leader in the movement toward a sustainable forest products industry. Grant helped launch the first trade association for the FSC forest products industry, the Certified Wood and Paper Association. Grant is a LEED Accredited Professional. He serves on the Forest Certification Committee of the Sierra Club, and has in the past sat on the boards of several seminal organizations in his field, including Woodworkers’ Alliance for Rainforest Protection, the Good Wood Alliance, and the Certified Forest Products Council. Currently, Grant is the principal of Jason Grant Consulting, based in Sonoma County just north of the San Francisco Bay Area. His clients are both companies and non-profit organizations that are pursuing the goal of a sustainable forest products industry.
